The day has come that children are getting piercings all over their bodies, some as early as infants. With public schools as the main source of education and the pressures that come from peers, many children come home from school wanting to get a piercing.
All parents and guardians have their own personal views on what they find as appropriate for their child. If you choose to allow your child to get a piercing, then please make sure that the place you choose to have it done is sanitary and has passed health inspections.
If you are a parent that chooses for your children not to get a piercing at this time, then you might try weighing out the pros and cons with them in hopes that they will see things from your point of view. If they don’t, chances are they will be very angry with you for a while, especially if their best friends at school are all doing this.
Children are being forced into peer pressure more today than usual due to the fact that parents are not spending as much time with their children and they feel like they have to fit in somewhere. Children want to be accepted by someone even if it means the bad group at school. Some children will sneak and try to do their piercings themselves or have their friends do them for them or with them. Take a few minutes a day to show your child that they belong and are loved.
